Excerpt: The book “The Big Jump Into Entrepreneurship” by Dr. Ramesh Ramachandra, Founder and CEO of Talent Leadership Crucible (TLC)
“When I was a teenager, I used to organize dance tea parties to earn extra money. I convinced nightclubs to open in the afternoon for an additional fee.
It was easy to persuade them because it was a mutually beneficial idea. After all, their business only operated at night, so hosting afternoon dance tea parties would provide them with an additional source of revenue.
For each ticket, I added an extra $5 on top to sell to my friends as well as the nightclub’s customers. I leveraged my network of friends and my role as a class prefect to advertise the event. Word spread quickly, and the dance tea parties became a hit.
On average, I made $500 per event. This was a stroke of luck for me at the time because my parents only gave me $1.50 a day for pocket money!
At that time, I didn’t realize that what I was doing was entrepreneurship—identifying opportunities and realizing business ideas. The experience and lessons from this small business venture became even more valuable as I grew up!”
