BIASES ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Excerpt: The book “The Big Jump Into Entrepreneurship” by Dr. Ramesh Ramachandra, Founder and CEO of Talent Leadership Crucible (TLC)

From ancient times to the present, people have always held biases about entrepreneurship, which often deter them from starting businesses.

In the past, in Singapore, mentioning entrepreneurship conjured images of “towkays (bosses) or towkay-neos (female bosses)” who were poorly educated, engaged in risky businesses, drove sports cars, and were involved in vices like gambling. Such stereotypes led many to look down upon entrepreneurship.

Today, in the minds of many, the term entrepreneurship is associated with young, talented men aged 20-30, dressed in suits. But what about women? What about retirees? Can they become entrepreneurs too?

Let’s rediscover the definition of entrepreneurship in this book, discard biases, and embark on the entrepreneurial journey!
